Paul Thompson founded The Low GI Café Company in 2006 together with his partner Janice Smith, the brains of the business. Paul is a type 2 diabetic and discovered the benefits of following a low GI diet together with a regular reGIme of exercise which has enabled him to control his blood sugar level without the need for drugs. This new healthy balanced lifestyle has had the beneficial side effect in helping him to lose 16 Kg and to enabled him to maintain it ever since. But a balanced, healthy diet and regular exercise isn't just for people with diabetes. Anyone who is interested in keeping in good shape or getting into a healthier active lifestyle can benefit.
Heathy Eating
Well, we at The Low GI Café Company want to change all that. Our menu will offer the following guarantees:
- A nutritional analysis of each meal for the average serving size.
- Ingredients will be primarily Low GI in nature.
- Ingredients for each meal will be listed, so you know what's in it.
- Food that tastes good and is great for you because we recognise that a balanced diet also needs to take into account fat and protein.
- A range of suitable beverages to choose from.
Make no mistake; this is not about some "fad" diet. It's about a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle. And that doesn't mean it's all about lentils, nut roasts and carrot sticks! While all three may have a place, a healthy balanced lifestyle is just that, meaning that making sensible choices at each meal time enables you to continue to enjoy the wide variety of food available. This makes following a Low GI regime easy because you don't have to eat stuff you don't really like and also explains why ingredients are primarily low GI not solely low GI. Apart from being impossible, it is important for a healthy diet that a wide variety of food is consumed.
So, it's not about a diet but a lifestyle change.
A healthy lifestyle is a balance but just as regular exercise doesn't mean you can fill yourself up with chips and beer, so a Low GI diet still needs you to tone up your body to create the environment where your muscles can increase the burn up of calories you consume.
